With more than 20 years as a news veteran, Art Fennell has received
nearly 100 awards for outstanding journalism and community service, including the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Emmy for best news anchor. Fennell’s
current assignment is anchor and managing editor of “Art
Fennell Reports,” an honest, candid and interactive look
at the news, issues and events that have people talking. Through
his hour-long weekly newsmagazine, Fennell explores the big stories
that shape our world as well as the small stories with a big impact
on life across the 13-state reach of CN8.
Most recently, Fennell served as anchor and managing editor for
CN8’s 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.
Previously, Fennell held various other leading positions with
WCAU-TV in Philadelphia, including anchor, reporter and producer.
His background also includes positions with WAVY-TV in Portsmouth,
Va.; WSAV-TV in Savannah, Ga.; WCBD-TV in Charleston, S. C.; WBTW-TV
in Florence, S.C.; and The South Carolina Educational Television
Network.
In August 1995, Fennell was elected president of the National
Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the largest professional
organization of journalists of color in the world. During his tenure
as president of the NABJ, Fennell was selected by Ebony magazine
as one of the top 100 most influential African-Americans in the
country.
In 2001, he founded The Arthur Fennell
Foundation (www.arthurfennellfoundation.org),
a public, charitable, non-profit organization. The foundation is
committed to raising funds and awareness to assist community-based
organizations dealing with disease, education and prevention in
diverse, underserved populations. Some of the national health organizations
that the foundation supports include The American Diabetes Association,
The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, and
the Sickle Cell Anemia Society.
Each year the foundation hosts the Art Fennell Celebrity Billiards
Championship as its primary fundraiser. Celebrities take their “cue” from
Fennell by playing team billiards in a fun-filled format before
a crowd of spectators. The Billiards Championship is aired in a
one-hour television special on CN8.
Born and raised in Bennettsville, S.C., Fennell is one of 12 children.
He is married, has two daughters and currently resides in New Jersey.
